“But for...” 的用法
表示“若不是...”/“如果没有...”
在错综条件句的虚拟从句中，根据从句的时态，判断主句相对应的时态。过去某件事的发生与否，对现在造成的影响，所以要用现在完成时。在表示“若不是”“要不是”时，必须与虚拟语气连用：
But for my help, she would not have passed the exam. 若不是我的帮助，她就不会通过考试。
But for the atmosphere plants would die. 如果没有大气，植物就会死亡。
But for your generous help, we couldn't have finished the work so soon.如果没有你的鼎力相助,我们不可能这么快完成工作的。
“But for...” 的其他用法
表示“但是（可是）对于...而言”
but for you 对于你而言；but for + 时间，对于...时间来说
But for me television is an escape. 但是对我而言，看电视是一种逃避的方法。
