百分比的表达
在英语中，百分比一般用 "percent" 和 "percentage" 来表示。
Percent 必须与具体数字连用，例如：ninety percent (百分之九十)。在英国英语中，"percent" 通常分开写成 "per cent"。
Percentage 可以单独使用，意为 "百分比" 或 "百分率"。例如：What percentage of school leavers go to university? (高中毕业生上大学的百分比是多少？)
"percentage" 常可与 "large"、"small" 等词连用，表示 "部分" 之意。如果 "percentage" 前面没有修饰性形容词，则意为 "一些"、"一小部分" 或 "少量"。 例如：
A percentage of the soldiers refused to take part in the raid. (少数士兵拒绝参加这次袭击。)
A high percentage of married women have full-time jobs. (大部分已婚妇女有正式工作。)
"percent" 和 "percentage" 后面的谓语动词的数由 "of" 的宾语的数决定。
宾语为单数，谓语动词则用单数。例如：Ten percent of the children are absent. (百分之十的孩子缺席。)
宾语为复数，谓语动词则用复数。例如：A large percentage of pollution comes from automobile exhausts. (大部分污染是汽车排出的废气造成的。)
"percent" 单独作主语时，根据意义既可为单数，亦可为复数。例如：
Of the new users, seventy-five percent have paid already. (百分之七十五的新用户已经付款。)
Nine percent is a large percentage. (百分之九是个很大的百分比。)
